The route from Fanano to Passo del Lupo and Lago della Ninfa is a mountain bike ride of around 25 km, with a difference in altitude of around 700 metres. The route is suitable for medium level bikers, with good physical preparation. The route starts from Fanano, in the province of Modena, and heads south-east. After about 5 km, you arrive at Passo del Lupo, a pass at an altitude of 1,344 metres.
From Passo del Lupo, the route continues eastwards, gradually rising until reaching Lago della Ninfa, at an altitude of 1,600 metres. The lake is surrounded by a fir forest and offers a magical atmosphere.
After a break to admire the lake, you can go back along the same route, or continue towards the north-east, in the direction of the Rifugio Duca degli Abruzzi.

The route is marked with the CAI 627 trail sign. The path is well maintained and presents no technical difficulties. However, it is important to pay attention to the ground, which can be slippery in case of rain.
Lago della Ninfa is a very suggestive place, especially in spring and summer, when the lake is full of water. The lake is an excellent starting point for more challenging excursions, such as the climb to Monte Cimone, the highest peak in the Northern Apennines.
The Rifugio Duca degli Abruzzi is an alpine refuge located at an altitude of 1,794 metres. The refuge offers an excellent refreshment and overnight stay.
